I have never had a bad experience here! Great shows, cozy atmosphere. Not every show is for everyone, but dang close! Not easy for a theater company.
I am a former board member, donor, RCT ambassador award recipient, actress, choreographer, and 30-year volunteer. I can no recommend this theatre until the current RCT Board leadership changes. Recently the Executive committee changed the bylaws without public notice, stripping volunteers of their membership and voting rights behind closed doors, blocked us from attending meetings, refuse to share a detailed budget delineating earnings and expenditures, refuse to make board minutes or bylaws available to the public, and then terminated our 27-year Artistic Director without reason or notice. They may try to silence us, but we will continue to speak out!
We have enjoyed all or our visits here. It is a nice theater and the plays and musicals are all entertaining
The board has decided to alienate their volunteer basis by removing member voting rights, transparency, and treating their former artistic director of 27 years like a criminal.
The behavior shown by the board is disgusting and should not be supported.
I am a recent "former" volunteer and patron. Until the current board leadership (specifically Heather Holmes, Kay Hocker, Ari Kolas) steps down, I can no longer support this organization. The staff, volunteers, children of educational classes, patrons and supporters of the MISSION of the Civic deserve better. We deserve a board that will work to support the mission and not their own personal motives. "not putting weight" into sexual misconduct claims against the former ED, secretly removing voting privileges from members, and eliminating the AD position in what is clearly a retaliatory action against volunteers that asked for transparency is wrong, unethical, and makes me wonder how on earth you got put into the positions you're in. Your actions are utterly SHAMEFUL and the fall out will continue until you resign.
They are now seeking contract staff for their upcoming season. Their stated reason for hiring contract directors was that it is easy and cheaper; also they wanted diversity by allowing multiple contract workers to direct. However, their advertisement stated they prefer contract directors who will direct multiple plays. What? They said they wanted diversity by encouraging multiple directors, but now they're willing to have one person direct multiple plays. Isn't that what our artistic director did? I don't recommend working at this theatre until the board becomes more accountable and transparent.
